AUDITIONS

What: On Golden Pond by Earnst Thompsonn. Directed by Rebecca Kramer.

Where: Slocum House Theatre, 600 Esther St, Vancouver, WA. Located at Esther Short Park in the heart of downtown Vancouver

When: Sunday, February 19 at 6pm and Monday, February 20 at 7pm

Who: The Thayers, open-hearted Ethel and irascible Norman, return to their cottage on Golden Pond for their 48th summer. This year, however, their peace is disrupted by a visit from their divorced daughter Chelsea, who arrives with not only a big chip on her shoulder, but her new fiancé and his 13 year-old son, too. Generations collide in this funny and touching classic about a couple in the twilight years of a long and glorious marriage.

Characters: Norman Thayer - 70’s Lead Role - Norman is a retired college professor, who describes himself as being "older than dirt." He is set in his ways, and hard to get along with. He has a dry wit, and he enjoys having fun at others' expense. He also uses his wit and intellect to mask his growing infirmities.

Ethel Thayer - 60’s Lead Role - Ethel is Norman's wife, and is several years younger than Norman. She is happy, outgoing, and content. Since they met, she has taken the rough edges off of Norman's personality. Intelligent and well grounded, she has been content to defer to Norman on many issues without losing her own identity.

Chelsea Thayer - 35-45 Supporting Role- The only daughter of Norman and Ethel, she has a difficult relationship with her parents. She has never gotten along with Norman, and she feels that Ethel always takes Norman's side of things.
